Many downtown bar goers have been waiting weeks for tonight, the re-opening of the Syndicate Lounge at the corner of 19th and Eye Streets.   The Syndicate has been battling with the ABC and The City of Bakersfield over some issues, what they are, we really don’t know.  All we know is the Syndicate has been missed and the buzz of them opening tonight is all over twitter and Facebook.  Bakersfieldcelebs will be there tonight for fun!

Monday Night, The Padre Hotel in downtown Bakersfield had a Pre-Grand Opening Party, and Bakersfieldcelebs was there to catch it all. It was an A-LIST crowd and you had to be on the list to get in. We caught up with Kathy Butler of the DBA, several council members, and even the owners of The Padre Hotel. It was a black tie event complete with wine, champagne, hor’dourves, and even the cafe was open serving caramel latte‘s!   Bakersfieldcelebs got in early and snapped a couple photos before all of the Bakersfield Celebrities arrived!    Check out the photos!

Bakersfieldcelebs only got a preview of the first floor, but we will return soon to cover the rest of this newly restored downtown landmark.  When is it going to open to the public, well we hear the week of January 25th, but we’ll keep you posted!

Bakersfieldcelebs stopped in to visit one of our favorite DJ’s at The Buddha Lounge Friday night and the club was packed.   The new Bakersfield hot spot features’ a very cool bar, VIP seating, and an outside patio for drinking and smoking.   DJ Danny Boi had the dance floor packed and bartender Adrian was serving up the drinks.  We were going to visit some other bars Friday night, but we had so much fun we decided to stay at The Buddha Lounge.   Check out the photos!

The Buddha Lounge is located inside of the Desi Cafe, at 4837 Panama Ln., Bakersfield.

Jorge Guillen has put in over 4 months of work into his downtown art project and Bakersfieldcelebs finally caught up with him. At first glance, it looks like an electrical box with some art on it, but in reality it is a work of art. Jorge told us it has a combination of Mayan and Egyptian Hieroglyphics and that many of the symbols & images represent the surrounding area of 19th and H Street. One side of the box shows the Nile River and directly to the west is The Nile Theater and another side gives the Padre Hotel a shout out, Jorge told us. There are too many symbols and meanings to mention, but the box is worth a look the next time you are in the area. The whole project is funded by both the State and County, and the Kern County Arts Council. It is also supported by the BPD and The Downtown Anti Graffiti Project. These boxes are all over downtown and there are many different artists painting them. When we asked if anyone ever vandalizes them, Jorge said “Not very often, I feel the people of downtown give them respect, and that’s good“. Before these boxes were covered with art they were covered with flyers and graffiti and were a real eye sore. Jorge told us his project is near completion but he will always check up on it for any touch ups. For Jorge it’s a passion, and it shows in his work.

The Padre Hotel, lots of buzz about the opening of this Five Star Hotel, restaurant, cafe, bar, and nightclub!  Bakersfieldcelebs had a tour about 3 weeks ago and all we have to say is amazing!  The rooms are W The Court quality, the bars and nightclub first class all the way, and the main entrance brings back the feel of days past.

Opening date? We’ve heard January 25, 2010, and we’ll be there for it, with lots of photos to share.

The Padre Hotel located at the corner of H & 18th Street, in downtown Bakersfield.
